• 

  Step 1

  Gather your supplies. Pick bright, contrasting colors. I suggest using a lighter color as your base color and the other colors will pop better when layered on top.

  Step 2

  Start with painting your nails with a clear base coat. This will prevent the colored polish from staining your nails. ( I had this happen when I did a dark blue)

• 

  Step 3

  Paint your nails the base color. I used a bright coral color, one of my favorites for Summer!

  Step 4

  Use a Q-tip with nail polish remover to clean up any mistakes you make. You will need to do this at the end as well, after painting your design.

  Step 5

  Use the nail polish brush and place small amounts of the contrasting colored polish on the paper to dip your toothpick in.

• 

  Step 6

  After your base coat is dry, use the nail polish brushes and paint a thin stripe on each nail. I painted the lines in different directions on alternating nails. Be sure not to press the nail brush down on to your nail or the stripe will be to wide. Just sweep the brush with a small amount of polish on it, across your nail.

  Step 7

  After the stripes have dried, use the toothpick, dip it in an alternate color and paint polka dots down the stripe. Be sure to use only a small amount of polish each time and switch out the toothpick to prevent build up. This allows for more precise painting. These toothpicks happen to have a flat end which worked well in placing the dots.

  Step 8

  Use the other color polishes and with the long end of your toothpicks, add lines in various patterns to fill in your nails. I had not plan, just added lines and colors where they fit and made sure after I did one hand I matched the design on my other hand.

  Step 9

  After you are done with your designs, let your nails completely dry and then put a coat of clear polish on them. If you don't wait for them to dry, the clear coat will smear your designs. Then take your Q-tip with nail polish remover to clean up the edges.

  Step 10

  Now your nails are ready for a Summer party!
