Have you always been creative and what’s the earliest work you can remember creating?
I have and some of my earliest memories are laying on the floor with my favorite coloring books and crayons.
What's your studio like and how do you keep organised?
Through a whole series of events I've downsized from a spare bedroom to a corner of the living room. I liked having a separate space that I could close the door to if I was mid project and left the place a wreck. BUT I had also forgotten how much I enjoy being in the hub bub of family activity as well. I arted in my living room the entire time my kids were growing up. It feels natural for me. I organize by keeping similar products together. The things I use all the time are always where I can see them and at arms reach.
Where do you look for inspiration?
The reason my blog is named Danas Inspirations is I am inspired by virtually everything I can see or touch. Colors in nature are a huge source of inspiration but I could also be inspired to create something by a beautiful scarf or piece of jewelry. Being a lover of color my entire life I will have to say color is usually what inspires me first followed closely by textures.
Whats in your pencil case / camera bag?
This is where that "have to see it to use it" thing comes in to play for me. If it is relegated to a drawer it is not the items I use all the time. The "stuff" I use all the time is organized somewhat neatly on the top of my desk and on a table next to me. It holds all of my acrylic paints, watercolor palette and crayons, pencils, markers and gel mediums. Close by underneath the table I mentioned is a large canvas file folder holder which contains all of my different watercolor papers, etc.
Any tips for someone suffering from creative block?
I think Picasso nailed it when he said, "Inspiration exists, but it has to find your working." I have a lot of different passions including mixed media, watercolor, drawing, photography. If ideas aren't coming for one venue maybe it's time to just grab the camera and go for a walk.
Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?
oops, I guess I jumped the gun with the last question! Yes, I have a LOT of hobbies and crafts. They range from needle arts to gardening and everything in between.
