When did you first start sewing and how did you learn?
I started sewing at age 12. I learned from a friend of mine who sewed and from our family seamstress who made all of our clothes. We didn't have department stores in our small town so we had to make everything.
Can you remember the first thing you made?
A red calico vest. I loved it!
Do you have any favourite pattern designers or celebrity sewers?
I like Vogue patterns by Badgley Mischka. I follow Mimi G and love her unique style.
What's your sewing room like and how do you organize your stash?
My sewing space is small, but functional. I have a 30 year old Elna serger that I love, and a Huskavarna designer series sewing machine. My sewing table is a thrifted item from Craigslist. I will email a photo.
What music/podcasts/TV shows do you love to stitch along to?
I love listening to inspirational music from Josh Groban, Home Free, Matthew West and other Christian artists. I listen to blogging podcasts from Jennifer Allwood, The Blog Millionaire, and ProBlogger.
Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?
I am also a home decor blogger and have been blogging for about 10 years in that niche. I paint furniture and decorate in my spare time. I also play classical violin and love spending time outdoors camping and hiking during the summer months.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I am enjoying sewing again after being out of the design industry for 25 years. I will be launching my own line of pdf sewing patterns in the next few months. I also have a sewing podcast called Style Blues where I talk about all things sewing and interview people with successful sewing businesses.
