When did you first start knitting / crocheting and where did you learn?
I started about 9 years ago. My mom taught me how to backwards loop cast on, and the knit stitch. After that, I learned the basics from Debbie Stoller's Sitch n' Bitch.
Can you remember the first thing you made?
Oh yes, a very ugly "afghan".
Who are your favourite pattern designers and celebrity knitters & crocheters?
The work of Kim Hargreaves and Ysolda Teague is what first caught my eye and made me want to design my own patterns.
Marnie MacLean was one of my first favourites too; I’ve always admired her ability to create young, wearable, fun and hot designs.
Hilary Smith Callis consistently produces beautifully structured designs; simple and attractive pieces that I can imagine myself wearing everyday.
Same goes for Jane Richmond, who’s strength in highlighting stitch definition and singular design elements I really admire.
Tiny Owl Knits is, without a doubt, my favourite whimsical knits designer.
I aspire to the kind of variety in specialty that Alexandra Tinsley has with her wonderful collection of hat (and other garment) patterns.
And, the hip and modern patterns of Allyson Dykhuizen! They’re totes groovy.
What are your favourite things to stitch and do you have a favorite item you've made?
I really like to knit, design, and wear shrugs. The pattern I've designed that I get the most use from is my Frühling Wing shrug.
What music/podcasts/TV shows do you love to stitch along to?
I love Subway Knits, she puts on such a great knitting podcast!
Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?
I sort of do a whole bunch of things, but certainly not very well. My goal for this year is to sew a garment that's actually presentable enough to be worn in public!
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
This has been great!
