When did you first start sewing and how did you learn?
I first started hand sewing and embroidery as a kid. My mom is a talented sewer and we always did crafts and creative projects together. She bought me a whole bunch of embroidery kits.
Can you remember the first thing you made?
My first embroidery project was of a unicorn - I used a Dimensions brand crewel embroidery kit!
Do you have any favourite pattern designers or celebrity sewers?
I love exploring Spoonflower and all their wonderful pattern design contests. There is so much talent to be discovered there and I love seeing the beautiful fabric designs people around the world create.
What's your sewing room like and how do you organize your stash?
I live in a small townhouse where there is little room to spare so my current workspace is the dining room table! Half of the table is taken up by my cutting mat where I prepare projects and embroidery kits for my shop. The other half has my laptop so I can keep my business running. At least I have a nice view of the garden and bird feeders!
What music/podcasts/TV shows do you love to stitch along to?
I usually work in silence but sometimes will listen to podcasts. Two I'm currently exploring are The Next Right Thing and Good To Be Home. In the evenings I'll stitch along to whatever Netflix movie my husband and I happen to be watching.
Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?
Most of my work is hand embroidery, but I am learning to machine sew too, which is loads of fun. I love creative outlets like painting and cooking as well as outdoorsy hobbies like gardening, cycling and hiking. And I always have at least one book I'm reading.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Thanks for the chance to share my love of embroidery! I hope it inspires people to relax with a new creative outlet.
