A writing table desk / shelve from recycled tables.
I saw a picture of a furniture made from tables like this in a magazine, and i fell in love straight away. I had to make one myself!! I thought it would be easy peacy and cheap, BUT is took weeks!! I had some trouble with the paint and the cutting project was more complicated than I had thought - but my dad helped me (;

and I LOVE it!! Unfortunately it is custom made for that wall in my room, so it will not be possible to take it with me when i move :(

  • How to make a table. Writing Table/Book Shelve Of Tables - Step 1
    Step 1

    I had a picture in my head of how I wanted the furniture to be, and after having bought the desk table and the small one, with the tiles, I made a drawing of how I would like it to end up. I've changed the color though, and the shelve on top is a bit different as well.

  • How to make a table. Writing Table/Book Shelve Of Tables - Step 2
    Step 2

    I bought some different tables from a market. This is the bottom table/desk while it is still "whole".

    Later I cut it in half length wise, so i would still have the drawer in the "main" table of my desk.

    The other half I used as a shelve in one of the "higher levels".

    I did this (cutting in half length wise) with all of the tables, which means I only had to bye 3 tables to make a desk and 5 shelves.

    Step 3

    (sorry, but Im not sure how to turn the pic)
    This is the legs i have used for two of the shelves. The plate is a little special because it has tiles in it. The old tiles were cracked, so I had to change them before putting the table back together.

  • Step 4

    I decided to paint the whole furniture in a light gray color. Before doing so i cut the plates and legs the size I wanted them (at least 30 cm in depth and 20 cm hight for the legs).
    Then I painted the whole thing and gathered it.

    It was a bigger challenge than I had expected, but I love the result!!

    Do you like it? (;

Awesomeness. Just pure unadulterated awesomeness. It's like something out of Alice in Wonderland or Labyrinth. Wish I had the space to do this.

I knew there was a reason not to throw those old coffee tables away! I will finally be able to reclaim the spare room and get the bookshelves for my bedroom that I've been craving! Amazing job, Salte. x

Thank you all for commenting, people! (:

Chuckee: interesting idea with the tires! I would love to see pictures of that someday!

Tatty.craft: thank you for the advice! I didn't really spend that much money on the tables though. I bought one at a market and one in a second hand shop and i got the last one for free. The expensive part ones the paint!! I spend 4 times the price on the tables on paint! Ö I had to cover them with two different kinds of preventives and then two layers of paint.. otherwise they would react differently to the paint. (:

Beverly C: Exciting that you are doing the same project! I would love to see the result when you are done! (:
