A brief smile tutorial!
This is a super duper quick walkthrough of how I put a smile on my characters' faces. This one's a breeze :)

    Step 1

Everyone draws mouths differently, and there's even some inconsistencies with my own art. But that's okay! Variety is what makes a style unique.

    Step 2

The first step I take when drawing a mouth is to throw down that little mustache shape (it actually kinda looks like the silhouette of a bird haha!) This is the top lip.

Next I add the bottom lip, which is just a swooping line below that "mustache" shape. If my character is at an angle, I leave a little space between the top and bottom lip on the part of the face that is closest to the viewer. This allows for a little perspective.

    Step 4

After the top and bottom lips are in place, I add a raindrop shape to either end of the mouth. This really brings the smile to life!

The mouth is the second-most expressive part of the face (with the eyes being the first) so it's important to keep things loose when drawing a mouth. Have fun practicing different expressions to up your smile game!

Thanks! I'm always doodling faces for no other reason than I just like to doodle. Now my doodle faces are going to be a little more expressive. Happy Joy
