The Brocade Blanket Coat

• 

  Step 1

  Snag a gorgeous brocade blanket or sofa throw large enough to wrap around your body

• 

  Step 2

  Chop the blanket in half & set one piece aside for now

• 

  Step 3

  Bind the raw edge of the remaining half with the fancy vintage trim

• 

  Step 4

  Lay it on the floor, right side facing up & fold the bound edge down about 20cms (this will be the collar)

• 

  Step 5

  Snag a loose fitting jacket, centre it on the fabric

• 

  Step 6

  mark the position of the shoulder & underarm of one sleeve with pins

• 

  Step 7

  Chop out a strip of fabric using the pins as a guide (this will be your armhole)

• 

  Step 8

  Fold the fabric in half & use the sliced strip as a template for cutting out the other sleeve opening

• 

  Step 9

  Chop the previously set aside half of the fabric into 2 pieces with your desired sleeve length & width measurements

• 

  Step 10

  fold each in half right sides facing

• 

  Step 11

  stitch together

• 

  Step 12

  flip right side out...et voila! instant sleeves!

• 

  Step 13

  Pop the tubes into the armholes right sides facing

• 

  Step 14

  stitch them together

  *zig zag over all of the outside seams for extra strength if desired

• 

  Step 15

  Create a groovy belt out of the remaining scraps & enjoy your gorgeous new coat!

  Step 16

  It can be worn with the collar open...

• 

  Step 17

  ...or tucked in & cozy!
