Basics to start working with tapestry crochet in the round, with single crochet
Tapestry crochet is a technique that will allow you to add color work to your projects. You crochet with one thread while one or more yarns are carried and wrapped in between the stitches. Then, colors are switched throughout rounds to make a drawing. Depending on the project, you will make one or more foundation rows/rounds with a main color only and then move on to the tapestry crochet portion of the project.

Step 1
Start the first single crochet of the round and stop before the last yarn over
Step 2
Place the second color between the hook and the working yarn, leaving a 10 cm tail
Step 3
Yarn over with the working yarn
Step 4
And close the single crochet with the second color wrapped inside. Place a marker in the firs stitch.
Step 5
For following single crochets, insert the hook in next stitch going under the second color, yarn over with working color
Step 6
And complete the single crochet with the second color wrapped inside
Step 7
To change color, work the last single crochet before the color change just before the last yarn over, lift second color in front of main color
Step 8
Yarn over with second color and close the single crochet
Step 9
And work necessary stitches with second color now wrapping main color inside
Step 10
To change back to main color, work the last single crochet before the color change just before the last yarn over, lift main color behind second color
Step 11
Yarn over with main color and close the single crochet. Manage the threads this way for every color change to prevent yarns from getting tangled
