Basic fingerless mitts pattern. Easily modified and customized!

  • Step 1

    Gauge 22sts x 28 rows =4”

    S/M (M/L) hand circumference 6”-7” (7”-8”)

    CO 36 (40), join to work in round, being careful to not twist stitches.

    1x1 rib or stockinette for 1”

    Knit 11/2” (2”)

  • Step 2

    Gusset:

    Rnd 1: k1, M1L, PM, k to end, PM, M1R

    Rnd 2: knit

    Rnd 3: knit

    Repeat three rounds until you have 15 (17) sts between markers/thumb

  • Step 3

    Next rnd: knit all to second marker. Move thumb stitches to scrap yarn

    CO 3 sts (You’ll have 38 (42) sts on hand.)

    Knit for 3/4” (1 1/2”)

    1x1 rib for 1” or continue knitting stockinette

    Bind off with a stretchy bind off, such as Jeny's Super Stretchy Bind Off

  • Step 4

    For S/M, pick up 3 sts on hand. Make thumb 1 1/4” long (optional: for the last 1” work 1x1 rib.)

    For M/L, pick up 5 sts on hand. Knit one full round. Decrease two by k to last 5 sts, dc1, k1, dc1) 20 sts total on thumb now. Make thumb 2” (optional: for the last 1” work 1x1 rib.)
