• Step 1

  Cast on 18 stitches.

• Step 2

  Knit until you think your scarf is long enough. You'll want to adjust the length based on the person's size. Mine ended up just around five feet long.

• Step 3

  Bind off the final row of stitches.

  Step 4

  Next, you can add fringe to your scarf.

  1. Decide how long you want your fringe to look, and add about half an inch to that measurement. Cut a piece of cardboard this long, and wrap the leftover yarn around it several times.

  2. Cut the tail off the yarn so that the wrapped cardboard is free from the rest of the skein.

  3. Cut the yarn at the bottom edge of the cardboard so that you have a bunch of pieces of yarn that are all the same length.

  4. Take the yarn off of the cardboard and lay it out straight, keeping it in a bunch. This length will be just over twice the length of your finished fringe. (I made 12 bunches total.)

  Step 5

  This is how to add the fringe to your scarf.

  1. Stick your latch hook through the top row of stitches in the corner of your scarf.

  2. Put one bunch of yarn in the hook, keeping the pieces lined up as neatly as possible.

  3. Pull the hook back through the scarf, but make sure the yarn bunch doesn't come too far through.

  4. Grab half of the bunch and pull it all the way through the scarf.

  5. Match the ends of the bunch up so that it is folded in half. Tie all the strands in a single knot.

  Repeat this with all of your bunches, keeping the fringe spaced out evenly along the edges of your scarf. Trim the fringe so that all ends are even.
