Shiny and layered look :-)
I used beading wire to make two short sides hooking directly onto the the sides of the clasp. I joined all the smaller the segments I made into varied length to shorter sides via a jumpring. Because its on beading wire it gives it a natural shape to flatter the neck.
I used clear seed beads, faceted crystal beads, and smaller faceted glass beads.

Sorry it took so long to respond to your comment on the cascades necklace. I haven't been on in awhile due to illness 
. That necklace was actually my first attempt at multiple lengths. I'm pretty much a math geek so to decide the lengths of my wire: a=cut wire in shortest length I wanted plus two inches (which will be eliminated during crimping and cutting excess) b= cut wire in longest length I wanted plus two inches. c= cut middle wire in length is the average length between the two (a+b/2). Of course you don't need to do anything too precise. 
I'm just a nerd like that. I like things to be even.

I too make jewelry and have been struggling with varying lengths, like yours, which I love by the way. Is there some kind of formula or is it just try and fail and try again? When I try to make these cascade-y things I get huge gaps and tiny gaps with no real symmetry. Can you please help? I would really appreciate any advise you can give me. Sorry for the long comment.
