A cute little skirt made of ribbons!
This is my first post, so tell me if it's not specific enough at times.

The ribbons can get a little expensive, but try to find some on sale!

The ribbons should be as long as you's usually wear a skirt.

Have the regular fabric be about the the same colors as your ribbons. For example, my colors were dark, so I used black.

You probably won't need three yards of fabric, but that's just what I used just to make sure I had enough.

    Step 1

Start by ironing your interfacing and fabric together.

Then, cut out your desired skirt shape. Mine were two rhombus-y shapes, like the ones in the picture. I used a weird shape like that to make the end of the skirt flare out a bit. Make sure your shape is a few inches larger than your waist measurement. Also, add about 3 inches for the hem and casing.

    Step 3

Give your fabric a one inch hem.

    Step 4

Sew a ribbon onto one of the fabric piece (as close to the edge as possible), on the side with the regular fabric. The end of the ribbon should be longer than the fabric. To prevent fraying, I used clear nail polish, but you can use any method your like.

  • Step 5

Iron your ribbons out every once in a while. It creates a more finished look. I ironed every 5 ribbons, but I would have ironed every ribbon if I had easier access to an iron.

Repeat this until both pieces of fabric are covered. The ends of the ribbons should all extend further than the hem, and be cut and random varying lengths.

    Step 7

Take the piece of fabric with the ribbons that you like the best and find the middle. Mark it. Fold your fabric to the desired size of the casing. While folded, mark two button holes on either side of the middle mark. Unfold the casing, and create the button holes.

Sew the two pieces of fabric together, creating a circle.

Re-fold where you wanted your casing and sew. Pull an extra ribbon through the button holes and tie. You now have a ribbon skirt!
