Purple Stitch Project Beanie
I've created this beanie for the Purple Stitch Project. I hope that babies, children and teens with seizure disorders can feel embraced by love and supported by the global community.

Skill level: Beginner with basic knowledge of knitting in round increases and decreases.
Sample Yarn: Cascade 220 Heathers (100% Peruvian Highland Wool – 100 gr/3,5oz 220yds) – color
9453 Amethyst Heather.
Yardage: 83 (90, 120, 128, 144) yds.
Needles:
- US 6 / 4mm 16¨circular needle (or longer circular needle for magic loop method )
- US 8 / 5mm 16” circular needle (or longer circular needle for magic loop method )
- one set of US 8 / 5mm DPN’s.
Notions: 1 stitch marker and a darning needle.
Gauge: 5 sts in 1” of 2 x 1 Ribbing
Finished Sizes:
● Infant (0 to 6 months): 16,5” circumference

  • Step 1

    Ribbing:
    With US 6 / 4mm needle, CO 66 (72, 78, 84, 90) sts.
    Place a marker and join the work, taking care to not twist. Work on 2 x 1 Ribbing for 7 (10, 10, 14, 14)
    rounds.

  • Step 2

    Stitch Motif:
    Switch for larger needles (US 8 / 5mm) and work the Stitch Motif for 3 (4, 5, 5, 6) time

  • Step 3

    Decreasing:
    Round 1: *K2, YO, K1, K3tog repeat from * to end. [You will have 55 (60, 65, 70, 75) sts on the needles]
    Round 2, 4, 6 and 8: Knit all sts.
    Round 3: *K2, YO, K1, K2tog repeat from * to end.
    Change for the set of US 8 / 5mm DPN’s.
    Round 5: * SSK, K1, SSK repeat from * to end. [You will have 33 (36, 39, 42, 45) sts on the needles]
    Round 7: *SSK, K1 repeat from * to end. [You will have 22 (24, 26, 28, 30) sts on the needles]

  • Step 4

    Final Decreasing:
    Round 9: *SSK repeat from * to end. [You will have 11 (12, 13, 14, 15) sts on the needles]
    Round 10: Knit all sts.
    Round 11:
    Infant: K1: Cdd 3 times, K1 (5 sts left)
    Toddler: Cdd 4 times (4 sts left)
    Child & Adult Small: K1, Cdd 4 times (5 sts left)
    Adult Medium: K1, Cdd 4 times, K1 (6 sts left)
    Adult Large: Cdd 5 times (5 sts left)
    Break your yarn leaving a 6” tail. With the darning needle, thread yarn tail through the remaining
    stitches and pull tightly to close the top of the beanie.
    Weave in all ends on the inside.
