These simple decorated bags are a special way to give a special gift!
What could be more perfect then hand decorated potato stamped gift bags for a handmade (or purchased) gift? Potato stamps are an old but good way to do some creative stamped designs for your personalized Christmas wrapping. The grandkids/kids will love to do this with you too!

    Step 1

I’ve found that one of the easiest ways to make a potato stamp is with a small holiday cookie cutter for a pattern. Cut the potato in half and then press the cookie cutter into the freshly cut edge of the potato about ½ of an inch.
Using a knife (you may need to do this part for a younger grand), carefully cut away the potato that is around the cookie cutter. When done, remove the cookie cutter and it leaves the design on the edge of the tater, ready to dip into paint!

It’s fun to have several stamp designs! You can also try making your own designs by cutting potato stamps free hand, so it is a bit more challenging for the older grands.

Squirt a bit of the craft paint in your chosen colors onto a paper plate.
Paint or dip the potato into the paint and then press straight down on the bag for a nice clear print. You may want to let the grand kids practice on some spare paper first to get some good print action going.

You can purchase a variety of cloth or paper bags in the stores. There are cute cloth bags or brown and white paper bags with or without handles in many sizes available in many places.
Find the perfect size to use for the bags of Nana’s irresistible granola that we made last week!
Tip: Potato stamping also works great on plain paper that you can then use for gift wrapping that special gift. You might try some white or brown butcher paper bought on a roll.

From there, have some fun! Mix and match your designs and colors of prints for decorative gifting!
Tip: have a few baby wet wipes or wet paper towels on a separate plate to clean off your stamps when changing colors.
The potato stamped gift bags are as unique as each of you are!
    Enjoy!
