Create a unique garland-style Advent calendar using origami balloons
This Advent garland is easy to make but takes a bit of time to fold the balloons. If you carefully open each balloon, you can reuse the empty ones by hanging them on your tree as you count down to Christmas.

    Step 1

First you will need to fold 24 origami balloons. This is an easy origami fold that you can learn to make by doing an Internet search for 'origami balloon'.

I suggest a paper size of 8"x8". Whatever your paper size, your balloon will be 1/4 that size on each side. So an 8"x8" square makes a 2"x2"x2" cube.

The type of paper I suggest using is scrap booking paper. Folding the balloons will take some time.

Next fill your balloons with candy, chocolate, or small toys. Insert the candy by carefully slipping it into the open end.

Using a small hole punch, punch a hole through one corner of each filled cube. Then thread elastic cord (or string or yarn or ribbon) through the hole and tie to your garland twine (or ribbon or yarn or cotton string).

    1) Thread the elastic through the hole.

    2) Loop and secure to twine.

    3) Loop again and catch the twine in the loop; secure.

    4) Finish by tying a bow.
