make your own personal memory board without draining your wallet, or pricking your fingers!
I've always loved the look of the memory/photo boards I saw in stores, but was never fond of the price! Since I'm not the greatest at sewing, I found a cheap, easy way to create my own, without needing a needle or thread! :)

Step 1
First, gather and prep all of your materials!
I bought my fabric from the thrift store for only 99 cents per pillowcase, and had the cardboard and push pins just laying around my house!

You'll want cut your cardboard to the desirable size, iron your fabric if necessary and plug in your hot glue gun!
(my cardboard was about 24" X 36")

*Money saving tip: instead of buying new ribbon at the store, cut the trim off an old piece of clothing!
I cut the lace off of an old dress up skirt!
Step 2
Next, line your cardboard with duct tape.
This will give your board a smooth, more rounded look, and cover any jagged edges!
Step 3
Lay out your fabric on top of your cardboard, find the proportions you like, and cut the fabric to your desired size.
My board is about 3/4 floral fabric, and 1/4 dark blue fabric!

*Make sure you leave at least an inch of extra fabric on each outer edge so you can glue it down later!
Step 4
Once you've cut your fabric, staple the corners to the cardboard.
Make sure you pull the cloth tight to avoid wrinkles!
Step 5
Now turn your board over, and test to make sure that your glue gun is hot.
Step 6
Once your glue gun is ready, make a line of hot glue underneath the excess fabric, and fold the cloth over onto the glue.
Press down firmly, making sure the fabric is pulled tight around the edges of your cardboard.
Step 7
This is what your memory board should look like so far!
Step 8
Now its time to add the ribbon!
Lay your ribbon diagonally across your board, starting with the longest section.
Step 9
Using your glue gun, put a pea sized dab of glue in the corner of your board underneath your ribbon.
Make sure your ribbon is pulled tight, and press firmly on the glued spot.

*If your ribbons are too loose, they won't hold up your pictures!

Do this on all ribbons where they meet the edge of your board.
Step 10
Place a push pin wherever two ribbons intersect.
Step 11
Create a criss cross pattern on your board, leaving enough room between ribbons for a picture, but not so much that your memorabilia will fall off!

I spaced mine about 5" apart.

Try to keep your ribbons as parallel as possible!
Step 12
cut off any extra ribbon hanging over the edge, and you're DONE!

Now you have a cute and practical memory board that will add personality to any room. ♥
