Although I am a cheerfully disorganized mess most of the time, I really adore getting organized. Fabric drawers are great for that, because they store and conceal, simultaneously.

The very best thing about fabric drawers, however, is that they can serve a third purpose: They can be your canvas! True story! With a big bottle of gesso at your side, you can create art that doubles as storage!

    Decide which drawer most desperately needs decoration and empty it.

    Apply at least three coats of gesso. The fabric may seem to you to be sucking up the gesso like a strawberry shake. That's okay. You will get total coverage. Believe in yourself.

    Plan and paint your "canvas," just as you would any other, keeping in mind that your first two to three layers may take slightly longer to dry than usual.

    When your masterpiece is finished and dry, fill it back up with your secret stash of garden gnomes!
