  • Step 1

Measure the size of your mug. You will need to chain enough length to go around your mug.

Crochet a chain of sufficient length to go around your mug, but not to loosely.

Chain one extra and then start with SC in each chain, skipping the very first chain against your hook.

Join in the round, careful not to twist your chain.

Chain 3, this will be your first DC. Now make 1 DC into each of the SC you made, but stop short about 5/6 SC from the end. This will be the space for the ear of your mug. You can slip the crochet work over the top of your mug to see that the space is wide enough. And also that it fits over the mug.

Turn. Chain 3, (this is your first DC) and then work one DC into each DC again, till the end.
Repeat this row until your work measures the height of your mug, to just below the ear.

You can alternate the rows with DC and SC and swap colours also if you prefer.

At the end of your last row, you would need to add a loop to close the cozy. Make a chain long enough to loop underneath your mug’s ear, around a button and back to the cozy. Close with a slip stitch into the last worked DC.

Cut of yarn, pull through last stitch, and sew in ends.

Add a button to close the cozy with the loop. Place your button in a way and at a distance that will keep the loop nice and firm.
