  • How to make a pet bed. Mid Century Modern Style Pet Bed - Step 1
    Step 1

Start by screwing together a basic box-style frame. We made ours from a sheet of pine plywood as well as an additional pine board. The size was cut to fit a small dog cushion-style bed that we already owned, but you could substitute a pillow, or standard 2" foam cut to the right size for your pet.

Paint the box and the legs. These are standard wooden tapered legs, which we purchased from Lowe's. Make sure you also purchase the brackets that hold the legs - you can choose straight or angled (our brackets are angled). The legs cost around $3 each.

Once everything is painted and dried, attach the legs to your box frame. From here, you just put the small dog bed or a pillow in the frame, as a cushion.

We covered our cushion in a retro style Star Trek fabric. The paint color we used is Pantone Emerald.

I would love to make this in a larger bed. Volunteering at a no kill animal shelter, I find that the larger dogs would prefer to be off the ground. I not much of a carpenter however, but maybe with a little
help I can do this.
