The Magic Loop Method of Starting a Round
The magic loop (also known as magic circle) is an alternative way of starting a round in crochet while avoiding a gap in the center circle. Rather than crocheting a length of a chain that is joined into a circle for the first stitches, start off with a simpe loop of yarn.

You Will Need

  • How to crochet a magic loop. Magic Loop - Step 1
    Step 1

    Start by placing your tail of your yarn behind your working yarn.

    Step 2

    Holding the point where the yarn crosses, insert your hook into the big loop.

    Step 3

    Make 1ch ( does not count as a stitch).

    Step 4

    Make the first stitch into the loop ( here single crochet). Insert your hook under both strands of yarn (the yarn that forms the loop and the tail).

    Step 5

    Continue until you have made as many stitches as are required. Then pull on the end tail to close the center gap.

    Step 6

    Join the round with a slip stitch.
