The Magic Loop Method of Starting a Round

https://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/magic-loop • Posted by LTBlogged

The magic loop (also known as magic circle) is an alternative way of starting a round in crochet while avoiding a gap in the center circle. Rather than crocheting a length of a chain that is joined into a circle for the first stitches, start off with a simpe loop of yarn.

Description

The magic loop (also known as magic circle) is an alternative way of starting a round in crochet while avoiding a gap in the center circle. Rather than crocheting a length of a chain that is joined into a circle for the first stitches, start off with a simpe loop of yarn.

Instructions

  1. Small 110807 2f2015 09 04 070013 mc1

Start by placing your tail of your yarn behind your working yarn.

  2. Small 110807 2f2015 09 04 070035 mc2

Holding the point where the yarn crosses, insert your hook into the big loop.

  3. Small 110807 2f2015 09 04 070115 mc3

Make 1ch ( does not count as a stitch).

  4. Small 110807 2f2015 09 04 070245 mc4

Make the first stitch into the loop ( here single crochet). Insert your hook under both strands of yarn (the yarn that forms the loop and the tail).

  5. Small 110807 2f2015 09 04 070410 mc5

Continue until you have made as many stitches as are required. Then pull on the end tail to close the center gap.

  6. Small 110807 2f2015 09 04 070505 mc6

Join the round with a slip stitch.
