• 

  Step 1

  Using the eyelet and the eyelet punch, punch a hole in the front part of the shoe, at the very centre. Keep the hole as close to the seam as you can without actually punching the hole into it.

  Step 2

  Do the same with the back of the shoe. If you're lucky, there will be a back seam which you can punch the hole into.

• 

  Step 3

  Punch holes evenly on either side of the shoe, again as close to the seam as you can. You can either do just two more holes on the side, or you can do four as I did here.

  Step 4

  Take your leather string and loop it in half. Push the two ends of the loop under the hole at the centre of your shoe, then pull them through the loop. Pull the ends so the loop tightens and fastens the string to the shoe.(For reference, I used leather string that was 120cm/4ft long per shoe. It's preferable that the leather string is the same colour as your shoe, or as close as possible.)

  Step 5

  Lace up the shoe, criss-crossing across.

  Step 6

  Put them on and lace the excess string around your ankle. Rock those shoes!
