    Work 10 rnds of K2, P2 ribbing.
Switch to larger needles and knit 1 rnd.
Work rnds 1–4 of chart A once, then rep rnds 1and 2 once more.
Work all rows of chart B once, AT SAME TIME inc 1 (2, 2) sts on row 1 of chart and dec 1 (2, 2) sts on row 11 of chart.
Work chart A until leg measures 5½ (6, 6½)" or desired length to heel.

  • Step 2

Change to C, K11 (13, 13) sts, turn. P22 (26, 26) sts. Place rem instep sts on a holder or leave on spare needle.

  • Step 3

    Heel Flap
Work back and forth on the 22 (26, 26) heel sts as follows:
Row 1 (RS): *Sl 1 pw wyib, K1, rep from * to end of row.
Row 2 (WS): Sl 1 pw wyif, purl to end of row.
    Rep rows 1 and 2 until 22 (26, 26) rows are complete.

  • Step 4

Rep rows 3 and 4 until all heel sts have been worked. End with row 4—14 (16, 16) sts rem.

  • Step 5

    Gusset
Change to A and arrange sts on 3 dpns as follows:
Needle 1: Knit across all 14 (16, 16) heel sts. With same needle, pick up 11 (13, 13) sts along side edge of heel flap.
Needle 2: Knit across held instep sts. (If you prefer working with a set of 5 dpns, you may divide these sts on 2 needles.)
Needle 3: Pick up 11 (13, 13) sts along side edge of heel flap. Knit across 7 (8, 8) heel sts from needle 1—58
(68, 68) sts. This is beg of rnd.
