upcycling
Being of upcycling tendencies, i often scour fleamarkets in search of ideas and workable goodies.Records have always held a fascination for me and now i am nostalgic of the times i have spent with my father's record collection. There is just something appealing visually of the shiny black discs with its pattern of concentric circles. So when i came across a stack of records at the market i was determined to use them for art.
I had a used canvas lying around which i gave a coat of white primer paint. Then i gave it two coats of medium brown wood stain to make it look like a plank of polished wood.
Next step was to prepare the records.I wanted to preserve the gleaming ebony surface of the records and draw the eye towards the centre with a splash of colour. This would emphasise the concentric movement of the records as well.
I painted the centre white and then added colour in ringed sections. To further accentuate the colours i added patterns and designs. After appropriate dryin time, i glued the records onto the canvas and voila! retro wall hanging done!
