  • How to make a mixed media. Glass Art Cupcake - Step 1
    Step 1

Sketch out a few cupcake designs using a 2B Brunzyeel pencil.

  • Step 2

Choose one of those cupcake designs and sketch that same design onto a 3D Art Creation canvas, after you have drawn a simple border around the edge of canvas about 1cm in.

  • Step 3

If you want a patterned background, this is the time to draw out your shapes.

    Step 4

Now use the Amsterdam Deco Relief paint no.801 and go over all the pencil lines with the relief paint. Leave to dry for a good 3+ hours. (Bear in mind that the relief left will shrink a little during the drying process.)

  • Step 5

Then go over these relief painted lines with one more coat of Light Gold no.802, so that you have a nice thick relief. Leave to dry again overnight.

  • Step 6

Now paint the frosting with the no.4 brush using Fuchsia no.350 and add a little white Opaque no.126 as you near the top , add even more to tone down the colour more.

  • Step 7

Now paint the cherry using the Fuchsia 360.

  • Step 8

Now paint the narrow stripes of the cupcake case using Glass paint Yellow no.200 & brush no.2.

  • Step 11

Paint the sponge of the cupcake using glass paint yellow no.200.

You can now paint the little circles on frosting (resembling the sprinkles) using glass paint Blue Violet no.548 mixed with a little white opaque no.126 to make a pale purple and fill in all the little circles.

  • Step 13

Optional; Whilst wet you can scatter on some sequins and beads if wish to give it that extra touch.

Lastly, you can now fill the rest of the canvas (the white canvas itself) with the white opaque no.126 with the nr. 14 brush to finish the art piece off.

    Points to note
The thicker the glass paint is applied, the less you see brush strokes.
You may find it quicker to pore the paint on to the canvas for the larger areas, but be careful!
Leave to dry on a flat LEVEL surface so that the glass paint dries evenly
Do not touch the glass paint until it is thoroughly dry as it is very sticky and will leave a finger mark, and you will have to paint over it!
You may want to experiment on test pieces first if you are mixing colour.
The paints to have a strong smell, so best to do your creation in a well aired room.
