  • How to make rabbit plushie. Felt Bunny - Step 1
    Step 1

First build a skeleton from pipe cleaners!

  • How to make rabbit plushie. Felt Bunny - Step 2
    Step 2

Wrap skeleton in white merino wool tops, making sure to pad out hands and feet and any areas you may want to stand out. You can use merino for this but i use off cuts from previous felting projects.

    Step 3

Layers of merino are added and needle felted slightly to keep in place, you don't want too much fine detail at this stage as it will move a little as you begin to wet felt.

  • How to make rabbit plushie. Felt Bunny - Step 4
    Step 4

Pay attention to areas around the neck and ears and joints. These will need a little poking with a felting needle to make sure they hold in place, other wise the white will show thru

  • How to make rabbit plushie. Felt Bunny - Step 5
    Step 5

Half way wet felted, just his belly and back to go.

Start wet felting by sprinkling a little hot soapy water on the rabbit. Start with feet and hands, then ears and face. You need to use a massaging motion to get the fibres to knit together

  • How to make rabbit plushie. Felt Bunny - Step 6
    Step 6

Wet felted and now ready for the washing machine. I like this part you get an element of randomness and never know what they will look like when the come out!

Felt the rest of the rabbit the same way, don't forget the back and pay particular attention to joints. Also make sure you felt the crotch or the body slips down the legs and you end up with a stunted bunny!

  • How to make rabbit plushie. Felt Bunny - Step 7
    Step 7

And he came out of the washing machine looking like this... not a happy bunny!

Then put bunny in a pillow case and tie with string. he needs to go in the washing machine... i put mine in at 40 degrees. Don't panic when he comes out like this, you then need to gently pull him into shape.

    Step 8

Last stage, i needle felt his tail and features on.

    Step 9

Finally add beads for eyes and sit him on a shelf. This one is a bit shock after everything he has been thru!

So...I was researching felt food tutes for the swap when I came across this. He is SO freaking cute. Awesome tutorial by the way. I was wondering what "wet felt" was and how you do it. The only felt I've ever heard of comes in 8x12 (usually) squares and I don't think anything happens to it when it gets wet. I don't know, I've never made anything out of felt.

Wow, that was long. sorry!
