Step 1
Thread the needle with a comfortable length of thread, pick up 36A. Work two rows of peyote using A beads
Step 2
Wrap the peyote strip around your finger and join the ends together to form a ring by sewing through both beads at each end in a figure of 8 pattern. This will be the bezel for the rivoli.
Step 3
Continue around the bezel in peyote using C beads. Work two rows of peyote keeping a tight tension to make the diameter of the bezel smaller. Work the needle through to exit an A bead on the other edge of the bezel.
Step 4
Push the rivoli inside so that it is snug and work two rows of peyote using the C beads to capture the rivoli in the bezel. Finish off the tail end of thread but leave the working thread attached.
Step 5
Work the needle through to exit an A bead in one of the middle two rows of A beads. Pick up 8B, skip the last one, and go back down through the 7th. Pick up 5B and go down through the 1st B, then through the A bead of the bezel again in the same direction as before to form the first petal.
Step 6
Go diagonally through the next A bead of the bezel, pick up 8B, skip the last one and go back down through the 7th. Pick up 4B and go through the 2nd B of the previous petal, then through the 1st B of this petal and back through the A of the bezel.
Step 7
Repeat Step 6 till you have 35 petals.
Step 8
For the 36th petal pick up 1B and go through the last B added in the very 1st petal. Pick up 6B, skip the last one and go back down through the 5th. Pick up 4B and go down through the 2nd B of the 35th petal, then through the 1st B of this petal and back through the A of the bezel. Finish of the thread end by weaving through a few beads of the bezel in a ‘figure of eight’ pattern.
Step 9
Thread the silk ribbon through two of the petals and tie a knot in both ends to stop the ribbon fraying.

** You can make a slider for the ribbon by picking up 10A or B beads and working in peyote until you have a strip just long enough to zip up around the two ends of the ribbon (approx.. 16 rows). Finish off the thread ends. **
