Customizable Perfect for Gifts!
I would consider this project Intermediate to Advanced level crochet.
Stitches used include: chain (ch), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), triple crochet (trc), slip stich (sl st).
There is also a technique of single crocheting two chains together which might be for the more experienced crochet crafter. I have tried to better explain this in the photos to help out.

I've attached the pattern as a word document since that might help with pattern reading :)
Please do not sell my pattern or items made with my pattern -You can give them away as gifts though! Thank you :)

  • How to crochet a bookmark. Crochet Flower Bookmark - Step 1
    Step 1

    Gather your supplies!
I'm using Anzula Nebula Fingering Weight Yarn in colors Raspberry (magenta), Chiva (blue), and Peacock (green).

For the stem and leaves and the small flowers that are a cluster of 3 I used Crochet Hook D/3-3.25mm.
For the large size single flower I used Crochet Hook G/6-4.25mm.
For the small curly tendrils on the single flower bookmark I used Crochet Hook B 1/ 2.35mm.

I also used matching thread and needles to sew the piece together and some beads to decorate the flowers.

An optional step is to starch the bookmark with a glue/water mixture in a small bowl.

    Step 2

    Stem (Hook D/3-3.25mm)
You can adjust the length of the bookmark by making more or less ch. This was apx. 10 inches long.
    Row 1: ch 76.
Row 2: sc in each stitch across, ch 1, turn.
Row 3: sc in each stitch across.
    Tie off, weave in ends.

R 1: ch 2, sl st to form a loop.
R 2: *ch 15, sl st to loop* 5 times to create 5 petals. (5 sets of ch 15)
R 3: in ch space: 5 sc to connect two petals together (see photo if confused); *in ch space of petal sc, hdc, dc, trc, dc, hdc, sc; 5 sc to connect next petal, sl st to loop, 5 sl st in the previous 5 sc to reach the next petal ch space* Repeat * 4 times until back to the first petal, in ch space of petal sc, hdc, dc, trc, dc, hdc, sc; 5 sl st in the 5 sc closest to the loop, sl st to loop.

The tendrils on the right-hand bookmark were kind of an afterthought but in retrospect I would make them at this point.

    Short tendril (Hook B 1/ 2.35mm)
    Row 1: ch 14.
Row 2: *sc 2 in same st, skip 1 st* Repeat * across.
    Tie off, weave in ends.

    Long tendril (Hook B 1/ 2.35mm)
    Row 1: ch 23.
Row 2: *sc 2 in same st, sc 2 in next st, skip 1 st* Repeat * across.
    Tie off, weave in ends.

    Step 7

Sew all the pieces together. Optional: you can use safety pins to try out different layouts and hold it together while you sew.

    Step 8

    Optional: Starching the bookmark
This is a permanent starching recipe to stiffen the bookmark and help it lay flat. I also noticed that this made the yarn slightly darker when it was dried.
Mix 1 part glue or mod podge with 1 part water.
Soak the bookmark in the mixture until it is completely wet then squeeze out the extra liquid.

    Step 9

Lay it flat onto parchment or wax paper or even a plastic bag to dry.
8 hours on one side then flip it over and let it dry another 8 hours or overnight.
You want it to be very dry before it goes into a book!

    Step 10

The one on the left is starched and the one on the right is Not starched.
Notice the color difference and how much flatter the starched one is!

But they work just fine either way!
Hope you like the bookmark pattern :)
