About
Christmassy gift idea
I've just started selling bags on a craft stall in town, and she's asked for some bags for the Christmas market. I won't make my fortune, but I'm aiming to fund some of my arty habits!

You Will Need
-
Step 1
Get some carpet samples from a friendly carpet shop and remove the rubber backing.
A piece of this can be used to make the outside of the bag as per my tote bag tutorial. I decorated it by machine appliqueing the shapes and adding beads before sewing up into the final bag shape.
(TIP: leather machine needles and extra strength thread worked really well.) -
Step 2
Make the lining with the lining fabric as per tutorial. Sew up both bottom corners rather than leaving one open.
-
Step 3
To make the strap, fold a strip of the carpet so that the join runs down the centre of one side. Satin stitch down the whole length of the centre to make a long flat 2 sided piece with the join hidden by the machine stitches in the middle.
-
Step 4
Use a length of ribbon to sew around the top of the bag to make a pretty edge.
-
Step 5
Sew in the straps to suit your preferred length.
Make a loop of ribbon and sew that in place if you'd like to add a button. -
Step 6
Iron a hem into the top of the lining bag, place in the carpet bag and hand sew around the top to the ribbon.
Add the button on the bag and you're finished! -
Step 7
I think I've remembered everything. I hope it's easy enough to follow - you'll get the idea.
And the color is just great.
