Easy, cheap and simply delicious!!!
Summer is about to end....but I'm not going to let it go without making this fresh dessert!!!! I'm a fan of Chocolate-Mint flavour, so I decided to make this!! =D It's kind of vegan because I use agar-agar powder. Agar-agar is jelly obtained from sea-weed, so it contains lots of fiber and it's quite healthy =D plus! it sets quickly if you are on a rush and you can buy it at any Asian grocery store =)Try it and tell me what do you think about it!!!

  • Step 1

First of all gather your ingredients. I don't know why I can't type fractions on the list of ingredients for cups XD so you'll need:
    1 1/3 cup Soy Milk
    1 cup Water
    1/8 cup Agar-agar powder
1 or 2 Mint Tea bags depending on your taste =)

Apart from that you can use the amounts shown on the "You will need" list.

  • How to make a jelly. Chocolate Mint Vegan Jelly - Step 2
    Step 2

Start by heating milk just before it starts to boil and add the mint tea bag. Let it brew for about 8 minutes and when you take out the bag, press it a little with a spoon to obtain all the flavour possible!!!

  • How to make a jelly. Chocolate Mint Vegan Jelly - Step 3
    Step 3

Add a few drops of green colouring and sugar.

  • How to make a jelly. Chocolate Mint Vegan Jelly - Step 4
    Step 4

In another sauce pan, mix water and agar-agar powder and heat it over medium heat until it starts to boil. Keep mixing and when it boils, lower the heat and mix again for another two minutes.

  • How to make a jelly. Chocolate Mint Vegan Jelly - Step 5
    Step 5

Add the mint-flavoured milk to the agar mix but make sure it's lukewarm when you do so. If you don't, it will start to set in the sauce pan and we don't want that to happen >_>

  • How to make a jelly. Chocolate Mint Vegan Jelly - Step 6
    Step 6

Pour the mix in pyrex molds or any other heat resistant mold and let it cool for about 8-10 minutes. Agar sets veeeeeery quick!! So keep and eye on it to distinguish the exact moment when it starts setting, it's important for the next step beacuse we need the jelly to be...."half" set XD

  • How to make a jelly. Chocolate Mint Vegan Jelly - Step 7
    Step 7

When you notice it starts setting, pour the chocolate chips over the jelly. If it's half set, some chips will go to the bottom and some will stay on the surface, exactly how we want 'cause that way you'll have chips through all the jelly =D

  • Step 8

Let it cool at room temp. Cover it with some plastic wrap and put it on the fridge for about 5 minutes just to make it extra fresh.

  • How to make a jelly. Chocolate Mint Vegan Jelly - Step 9
    Step 9

Take it out of the fridge. If you want to, you can take it out of the molds as I did but wheather you unmold it or not, I recommend to pour some half and half over the jelly to give it that extra kick!! =D

  • Step 10

Take a spoon, sit comfortly and enjoy!!! X3

P.S. I don't really know if I translated 'half and half' right XD here in Mexico is called 'media crema'. It's very thick and it has a plain, fresh creamy flavour. Guess you can substitute it with heavy cream XD ....and sorry for the crappy pics >_>

Sounds really yummy! I have the perfect tea for this. Just need to get some non-dairy milk, sugar, and agar-agar. Maybe top it with some vegan whipped cream. Thanks for the tutorial!

I guess I'll have to edit that since I actually made it with soy milk XD I drink soy milk a lot...so it's kind of regular milk for me already....but yeah...I'll edit it to avoid anymore misunderstandings =)

I noticed how this recipe has the word vegan in the title even though the main ingredient happens to be milk, milk is a product from cows. The recipe sounds cool, but this post angers me and I' not even vegetarian.

Uhmm, it's VEGETARIAN, and vegan if you make it without half & half, but yeah, it IS optional
