Take a manly hardware item, an MDF peg board, and turn it into something beautiful.

This would have to be one of the easiest and quickest DIY’s I’ve done, and it’s so easy for you to make changes to fit your home. Use different ribbon and beads, or different sized frames to create something that works.

Take the insides out of your frame.

Use the backing board of the frame to trace the area you’re going to cut on the board.

(Don’t do what I did: Search for a measuring tape, measure the inside of the frame, realise that the size of the frame was written on the paper insert of the frame, mark out the measurement on the board, look for a ruler, then realise that the easiest option is to JUST TRACE IT.)

Do a test cut with the saw to make sure you’ve got the correct blade. When I did my test cut I realised I’d have to sandpaper the edges to take off some scratchy edges.

Turn on the saw, flick on the LED and line it up with the trace line, then cut. Sandpaper the edges, and then spray paint and leave to dry. I recommend at least 2 coats.

Go nuts with your ribbon! I used gold, some leather thong, string and some oriental beads to give it a tiny bit of colour. The width of the leather thong was perfect. If you want to thread something thicker through the holes, you could drill them individually before painting.

Once you take the inserts out of the frame, be careful. The frame can become a bit bendy and is more breakable. Thread your ribbon into the board before putting it into the frame, there’s a lot of twisting and turning as you get your design right.

I used masking tape to secure the ends of my ribbon. It’s on the back, you won’t see it. I also tied off the ends before taping.

Ease it back into the frame and secure with the metal hooks and put that sucker on the wall.
