I don't think he likes it very much, but at least he'll be warm.
If you can't tell from the photos. I have a hairless cat. A sphynx cat to be precise. I want to start taking him on walks with me, but since it is getting chilly he needed a sweater. I looked up patterns and tutorials on the internet, but the only ones I found were for knitting or crocheting. I can't do either. You see the problem. But I found a solution!! My boyfriend has about a gazillion hoodies he never wears, so I cut one up for our lovely Mir.

P.S. I apologize in advance for this most likely horrible tutorial. This is my first dealing with clothing and I didn't have a pattern. Just a lot of trial and error. Also this will probably take you ten minuets if you have a sewing machine.

  • How to make pet clothes. Cat Sweater From Hoodie - Step 1
    Step 1

First step gather your supplies. Which are one old hoodie, and my crafting box which has the basics(seam ripper, thread, pins, et cetera).

    Step 2

Now take apart the hoodie. I don't like using a seam ripper so I just cut everything off. Which was the sleeves, hood, and front pocket. I also cut the cuffs off of the sleeves and I cut the hoodie in half. Set all of them aside for now.

Check out your awesome kitty. Cute, huh?

    Step 4

Measure your kitty! Hopefully he is good with this. Mir was sleepy so he didn't struggle, but he was chewing on my tape measure. I measured his neck, waist, and the length of his body.

    Step 5

This is where the trial and error starts. My dog has some sweaters and I decided to make Mir's like her's. Which had leg straps and was rounded on the back.

So first I made a sketch of how I wanted the sweater to look, then I cut out a trial piece.

  • Step 6

Now I don't have a picture of this, but I put it on Mir to see if it would fit and then just put it over one of the sleeves and cut it out.

  • Step 7

Next I imagined how I wanted the bottom to look and sketched and cut out a trial piece, held it up to Mir, found it was too small, made adjustments and it fit.

Now the cuffs of the sleeves and the bottom of the hoodie were the same stretchy material so I used that for the straps and the collar.
Now you have all your pieces!!

Now just line them up and sew!!

    Step 10

After you get the little top part sewn try it on your kitty. I had to adjust the neckline because it was too wide and too long.

    Step 11

Now just sew the bottom and try it on again!

    Step 12

Next you are going to take the cuff and pin it to the top for the collar. Sew and see if it fits once more.

Yes the sewing looks kinda crappy, but it's the inside, so no one will see it.

    Step 13

The bottom "hem" I guess is what it would be called was wide enough for me that I cut it in half for the straps. Now just sew them and flip them inside out.

And for the final step just sew them on the sweater.

Now enjoy your adorable kitty!! Sorry for the blur he was trying to eat my hand.

That's funny that your cats name is Oreo, because our dog is Oreo as well. Actually, my boyfriend named her Sweet Oreo Kisses as he was a kid when he got her.

Also if anyone actually makes a sweater I'd loooove to see it!!

OMG!!! I want to try taking Oreo on walks--she does the same thing as Mir. I don't think she needs a hoodie, though, as it doesn't get too cold here, and she has a fur coat already. ;)

Let me know if the harness thing works out for you.... and btw, I LOOOVE this little sweater!!!

Well, I haven't actually tried to take him out, but every time my boyfriend or I open a door in our house he guns it out the door and I take him to out to get the mail with me. That's all though. I want to get a harness, but I'm going to have to line it with something soft because I don't want it to chaff.

My cats would freak out if I tried to put anything (clothes, collar, anything) on them. Tongue
Fortunately my cats have a nice little coat to keep themselves warm so I don't have to dress them.
You cat must be a very patient and calm cat. ;-) Does he like to go out on walks?
