Made for some homework ages ago...
Hessian is a horrible fabric...it frays all the time and it leaves little brown furry bits all over your clothes!!
I made this table mat for some autumn holiday homework that I got in year 5 (that was ages ago).
I hope you like it! It's a nice idea to do it with younger children to get them into sewing, if you want :)

  • Step 1

Find a template for the leaves, and cut it out.
Also cut out your rectangle of hessian.

  • Step 2

Cut out as many templates for the leaves as you want.

  • Step 3

Pin them onto the hessian and make sure they fit etc...

  • Step 4

Sew them on using thick embroidery threads (the reason I used thick threads was because it emphasises the leaf a bit more).

  • Step 5

Then I just did a quick running stitch round the edge to make sure it didn't fray too much and to make it look nice.

  • Step 6

Thanks for looking at my project!
I hope the instructions are clear enough :)
