Anything but dowdy!!! A yummy comfort food that's easy to make.
This is a cross between a cobbler and a cake with apples. Feel free to change it up to peaches or cherries, etc....This is an old-fashioned dessert, nothing fancy, just good old home-cooking.

Peel and cut up 3 cups of apples. Butter a casserole dish and place the apples inside. Sprinkle the apples with 1/2 tsp. nutmeg, 1 tsp. cinnamon and 1/2 salt. Pour 1/4 to 1/2 cup of molasses over the apples. (to your taste) Bake at 350* for 30 minutes. While that is baking, make the batter. Mix 1 1/2 cups flour, 2 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1/2 tsp salt. Melt 1/4 lb. butter, mix in 3/4 cup milk, and 1 egg. Mix flour mix and milk mix together. When apples have cooked 30 minutes, remove from oven and pour on the batter. Return to oven and bake for 30 minutes. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream if desired.
