Where to get Cheap Wood Off-Cuts?
I know it sounds a little silly but I've got an idea or theory for a wood based project however I don't need lots of it, just off-cuts. I was wondering if it is possible to go to some sort of hard ware store and buy cheap off-cuts of wood? If not where else would be a good place to get cheap bits of wood?
Just so you know I live in a town so I can't really go and chop a tree down (shame though!!) and I live in the UK so unfortunatly I can't go and get stuff from the US or Aus (unless it's online but I've never known an online shop to ship over bits of wood LOL)
Thanks for your help and advice!!
Try looking in the yellow pages for local joiners and see if they have any offcuts you can buy. Some will probably give you some if you take them away yourself. Also you can pick their brains for advice while you're there=)
Thanks for the advice Laurel!!
I'm not sure what the area you're in is like, but I'm in the pacific northwest and there's tons of lumber yards. You could also see if there's some in your area, they may have scraps you can get ahold of. You can also try somewhere like Home Depot. They do a lot of wood cutting for customers and might have some small off cuts laying about that they wouldn't want to go to waste!
Hi Lolly. Try googling free wood samples. There are loads of companies that send out samples of wood flooring that would be useful for small projects. My daughter does this for her animation scenery
ps she made a seperate e-mail address and made up name for ordering samples so she doesn't get bombarded with spam
Hey Sheila. Thanks, that's a wonderful idea
Hi Lolly, she gets vinyl and cork too this way
Thanks for the tips Sheila. If anyone else has any tips let me know
I can't wait, as soon as I get my materials I wil start on my project straight away!!
