money-making challenge over the summer...
i've challenged myself to make £100 in the time between finishing my gsce's in late june to starting college in mid-september... what kinds of ideas do you have to start me off??
if i make more than £100, i'm thinking of giving the rest to charity...
any help gratefully appreciated!!
<3
well sell some crafts! or have a bake sale
Are you not up for a job or do you just want to sell crafty things? Hope that doesn't sound rude, I'm just trying to figure out what you are willing to do to get this target
thanks michelle
i'm trying to find a job, but being younger and less experienced than eveyone else at 15, it's going to be hard... i'd just like to try doing general craft-selling/babysitting(not that there are many families with kids of babysitting age around my area?) or anything really!!
How about dog walking?
I also saw an advert in my local area offering a cat-feeding service, and she had worded it really well, pointing out how stressful it is to put your cat into kennels(Kennels for cats?) and how she would attend to the cats twice a day, and if the owners wanted, she would text them to let them know the cats were ok!
Also, you could offer to take in peoples hamsters, rabbits, goldfish etc. during the holidays, as people often find it difficult to have them looked after while away.
If you live in an area which has car boot sales, you could try going to them early. and look out for bargains that you could sell later on ebay...designer clothes, collectibles etc. just like "Bargain Hunt" on tv!
Those are all really good ideas! Nora. I got a job at 15 (had a couple before as well but not long term) for the summer and I was asked back year after year and ended up working there 4 summers in a row. Cleaning jobs might be good also, like caravan parks and stuff as it will be a lot busier in the summer and holidays etc. Any cafes near by? Waitressing, Kitchen Porter (basically washing up, but the money is there!). That's just a few ideas, I had trouble thinking of jobs when I was your age. Definitely give your crafts a go though Do you have a bicycle you could branch out to babysit for others a little further away? Just ideas. Hope I'm helping just a little....
like the ideas nora! thankyou
what job did you have over the summer, ruby? it sounds great!
Oh you guys suck! With your dog walking jobs! That would have been awesome. We had to pick tobacco... and usually for free. Our dogs just ran around doing whatever they wanted!
What about art festivals? You can make a bunch of stuff and set up a booth. (We have art festivals all the time where I'm from) Otherwise, have a yard sale! I'm sure if you offer to spring clean your parent's house, they'll let you have the junk you dig out. You could clean out your room too and have twice as much to sell!
Oh wow you guys those are really good ideas!! I could have done with doing stuff like that over the summer when I was at Uni. Now I've nearly finished I've got to find myself a full time job suuuuuuuucks
Someone has just put up an advert in the local village shop for "Bunny-Breaks" rabbit minding holiday care!!says they also take all little furry creatures ( I presume thats hamsters, gerbils, etc.) So now would be the time to get your poster made, if you would like to try this.
i must get organised, definitely soon...
i think i will try a bit of everything!
will post a copy of my list and plans when ive sorted out what i'll be doing
Well during the first summer I worked there I was a KP then they wanted to to actually work with the food and prep it, so did that for the remaining 3 summers. It was a summer school just 30min walk up the road from where I live. I've also done cleaning in hotels and stuff. Anything is worth a try so yeah let us know what you get up too
I worked at the local summer day camp. I got paid for it and got free trips to museums and craft time! I also worked a couple summers for a food stand that traveled to the local craft, horticulture and county/ state fairs.
thankyou everyone! if you have any more ideas, i'd love to hear them too!
so far here's my list of predicted amounts which i know i should be able to get from stuff-
*Helping my nanny and grampy set their computer up one afternoon, they may pay me for that about £5 rather than getting an expensive tecchie person in
*A table at the table top sale at the local community centre, with my mum, using a few old crafty items i no longer want and some stuff from round my room; about £10 if I'm lucky I hope (theres not usually too many customers up there)
*MUST FIND A JOB!!!
*I've prepared a little display stand with a few items to display at my local library, as they have a cabinet which they allow people to put things in; they take 18% of the profits when you sell which i think is a good deal seeing as i can leave it there for any amount of time
*I occasionally make cards to order for family as well for occasions, but i dont think there are any coming up at the moment
*I'm going to design a flier and a card to give out round my street, and to put up in the newsagents, advertising for running errands/babysitting/etc
*I'll also look for local craft fairs to try selling at, or at least giving out business cards (i can do made-to-order items of jewellery etc), although there are not usually many popular, well-known ones in the area
*I would like to have a garage sale, but there arent many people nearby who I think would come, not that I would have much stuff left after selling it in other ways like the above, although i would like to try it as I have said
i'm ready!! i hope...
Loads of good ideas there, Snazzy....you are going to be busy over the summer!
