gift suggestion?
I have a dear friend who will be 40 next month. She is an active woman who needs to practice what she preaches about self care. She would LOVE the little things that I have made for her e.g. rice bags, envelope bags. Seeing how I am on not a deadline, I would like to make her something a little more time consuming. Any suggestions?
I have made Mantra hangings in the past.
I use Janice Street Porters mantra (check out her biography-which is an excellent pressie in itself)
Then in either fabric or paper I develop it to that person's needs.
A personal and fun project
If it's about physical self care you could make her an outfit to work out in (there's a lot of yoga pants how-to's on here), a mat and carrying bag, and if they're what I'm thinking of, your rice bags will be great for after a workout. Maybe even a little book with diagrams of how to do simple exercises and a spot to track progress.
If it's more for 'spiritual' self care you could make a journal with inspirational phrases/images and maybe even fill in a few pages with open-ended questions for her to answer (self reflection type questions). To go along with that you could make a set of tarot cards or medicine cards. I don't think of them as something to use to tell your future but if you just let your mind wander around the symbols you'll unlock thoughts you didn't even know you were having and think of new ways to approach any problems in your life.
You could also make her a relaxation kit of sorts...a cd with soothing music, a pair of slippers, some snacks, and a beverage mix (there is a good chai recipe on here...you could assemble the dry ingredients for her). There's also how to's here for slippers.
And lastly, something I've made that helps me feel centered and inspired is a painting I made of Saraswati. She represents learning and knowledge. If you're both comfortable with it, you could do something similar with the goddess or god that you think would help her the most. There are also mantras associated with each (to go with Essex Debs idea).
