Etsy vs. Artfire vs. Others?
I'm sorry if this has been discussed in the past.
I would like to set up a site to sell my crafts, but first I would like your opinions on the best site to sell on.
Etsy is the largest and ArtFire has gotten great reviews and I just saw an add for ShopHandmade in a magazine.
Which do you recommend and why?
Thanks for your help!

I am not really having much luck on etsy. I am looking around for other places that dont charge a whole long.
I tried etsy but wasn't all that thrilled with it; it's too crowded. I have stores at lov.li, blujay and dawanda. Pinkdoodle is fairly new as I tried it when it first launched last year and no one made any sales, but it's probably cuz it's too new. Blujay and Dawanda are completely free with lov.li only charging a small commission fee on a total sale, and the fee is not due until you hit the $10 mark. I have sold quite a few things there and still haven't reached. I made a nice sale on Dawanda just last week.
Since I posted this thread, I've done some research on my own. It seems as though ArtFire is the way to go (at least in my opinion). They are 100% free if you're only selling a few items per month. After doing the math, ArtFire's $7/month flat fee for full selling power saves sellers a lot of money in the long run. Also I've found that it's now where near as crowded as Etsy is - at least not yet. This year (2009) they're planning on spending millions of dollars on advertising, which means your "store" will receive a lot more traffic than if you listed your items on Etsy. From what I've seen, listings get more views on ArtFire, it's seems easier to use, and has more options than Etsy as well.
