Worried about the summer
This all might sound pathetic, but whatever. I'm sharing anyway! (excuse the rambling tone in all of this; I find it difficult to organize my thoughts )
Now that school is out for the summer, I'm going a bit crazy. I know most people would love a sweet two months off, but I don't. I'm a person who loves routine, and things are looking rather unstructered and boring.
I'm an unsocial person, so joining summer clubs are rather out of the question. Heck, strangely enough, I don't even have a desire to be with my friends from school. Also, I live in a veeery small town and there aren't many shops or museums or anything fun like that. It's too hot and humid to go outside, anyway.
Another thing, I am going to my cousin's house in 4 weeks, and am really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, as the weirdo that I am, whenever I'm waiting for something like that to happen, I end up wasting my time and wonder where the hell all my time went. I don't want to have another forgettable summer!
So, with all of this, I predict a very boring and wasted two months. I have very little to do at my house and am generally uncreative with coming up with things to do. Just thought I'd complain a bit
Thank you for listening, or reading, rather. If anyone has any advice, I would love to hear it!
100 odd pages of projects? That's inspiration enough!!
I don't like summer much, I'm terrified of wasps, I've had terrible hayfever already and I'd rather it rain then be hot!!! And I'm too old to enjoy lazing around doing nothing you can't play like when you were a kid! I've had nothing to do for a couple of months because of a career change and it feels like ages but it doesnt at the same time! Last summer I had Harry Potter though! I tried to find a job last summer no luck and the only luck ive had this year is finding an apprenticeship but a 'middle man' company has to sort that out for me and they're taking their time! But anyway try finding a job maybe? I bet local resturants are looking for extra waitresses, you can make so much money as a waitress as well because of tips!
Unfortunately, a job isn't possible 'cause the parents won't let me get one. I would've otherwise, though.I will have to spend some quality time going through all these projects. I'm little lacking in the resource department, but I've seen many recylcling projects I need to take a look at!
Sorry to hear that the 'middle man' company is taking there time. I hope they speed things up, for your sake! It's awful to be waiting for something like that, and not being able to do anything about it.
I know what you mean Kiki, although it's nice to relax, the novelty of having nothing to do wears off quickly. However, I don't know what to reccomend! Money's always a problem with things like this too, I can never afford to do something every day. Crafting stuff is a very good idea but..I can't be any more useful, sorry x
Yeah, I craft to fill up time or try and come up with creative little projects to keep me busy. Make lists of all the things you'd like to do or achieve, plan and work your way through them.
my summer consists of finding entertainment for my two little girls....I tend to run out of ideas and when I do that is when we pile up in the car and go to grandma's!!! which is a ten minute drive. lol
Thankfully, i work a lot! But when i'm not doing that - i tend to go see the boyfriend - who lives an hour away...but so is everything else. My little island has no wal-mart, no chain stores, heck we don't even have a stoplight! All we have... is basically... the beach. So - it's a good thing i like to drive....and read!! And I'll certainly have a nice tan one of these days. tee hee.
A beach? I'd live on the beach if we had one!
Sugarlishes - there are lots of craft books you can do with kids like not just for kids for you AND your kids and if you can't afford one at the moment I'm sure there's a lot of how to's on kid craft!
Oooh. A beach! I wish there was one here. All the lakes around where I live just have crummy, slimey boat docks. Much unpleasantness.
I quite like the idea of making a list of things to do though. I think I'll make one today. Thanks Cat!!
We have a few lakes/ponds but they're on disused probably former coal mine sites that are now marsh lands and there's fish and stuff in it and I won't swim in water in a natural setting, I decided I would never swim in the sea again after being < this > close to a jelly fish last summer.
Make the list out of handmade paper and decorate it haha that will take up some time!
Have you ever thought of volunteering? You wouldn't even have to really join a "volunteering club", just find something that needs doing and do it. Talk a walk and pick up trash, clean up a park, call the city and offer to paint over graffiti, etc.
Also, these are 2 of my favorite project sites (besides this one of course.) I'm a procrastinator like you, so I always say I'm going to do all of them and I rarely get around to it, but it's nice to have something to look forward to even if I never get around to doing it.
http://www.learningtoloveyoumore.com/hello/index.php - A list of projects. Pick the ones you like, do them, take pictures, share, look at other people's. Do them as many times as you want, as many different ways as you want.
http://illustrationfriday.com/ - A new topic is selected every Friday, and you have until the following Friday to illustrate it in any manner you want- paint, draw, digital, photo, fabric, whatever. Post the picture on your own blog and submit a link to this site so everyone can see.
Due to mass paranoia and too much reading, I don't like swimming in natural water either. Nasty parasites and bugs and fish. One of our lakes was once a forest in a valley; they cut all the trees down to stumps and flooded the valley. Not sure why. I think it would have been prettier as a forest.
DJSparkles, I checked out the second site you mentioned. I love the idea of a themed project! I'll have to participate in the next topic. I'll look at the first site later, too.
Volunteering is a good idea. I think I'll ask my church if they need anything done over the summer (asides from lawn mowing, I already turned that down). I'm sure they'd appreciate a young, bored teen helping out.
Thanks for ideas everyone I also feel I'll be getting veeery familiar with the boards on this site. Haha.
