Not Qualified to Clean?

So the job market here, like I hear it is everywhere, is pretty slim. Now that gas is 4 dollars a gallon, I decided I needed to get a part time job to help make ends meet. I went and applied at 2 hotels in town for maid work. I used to do that when I went to college, and I never minded it. But, when I called back both of them said I wasn't qualified. Arrgghh...how can you be underqualified to clean hotel rooms? This is so frustrating...I haven't worked out of the house in a few years, but it seems like employers can't look past those few years to see my schooling, jobs before that. I'm just crabby about it, although maybe it's an ok thing. Minimum wage here is 6.15...that doesn't even pay for 2 gallons of gas to get me to work and back Tongue

As a cleaner I cannot understand how you can be "unqualified" for it, "over qualified" yes. That is just madness!
Gas is crazy here too, I am so glad I can walk to work and don't drive or have kids to feed!

It is over 6$ a gallon here btw.

I'm unqualified to write down orders, remember table numbers, give orders and smile!! Actually I think it was just that theyd pick some and maybe I was too late givin in the form for an interview maybe. My dad had a similar situation when he applied for a security job, 15 years as a prison officer and he's not qualified for a security job!? They messed up with admin he thinks. But anyway I know how it feels liz! McDonalds are hiring, but I just dont want 'look what I settled for' on my cv.

it's really annoying when you go look for jobs and cant get anything, sometimes it makes me feel like a real failure and all I do is post on this board because of it hahaha it's just right place right time sort of thing

This is the same thing that happen to my brother. He applied to work at a hotel and they called back and interviewed him. They told him he didn't have experience. I was shocked! What kind of world is it when you need experience just to clean. How can people get entry-level jobs and work their way up, when they want you to have experience straight from the crib?
