CAKE RANT!

Ok so today is the joyous occasion known as my 20th birthday. This is the story of "The Two Birthday Cakes"...

3 days ago my mother and I went to Dairy Queen and ordered a custom birthday cake with a kick a*s sugar skull on it. Today while doing my hair I call Dairy Queen and ask if my cake was ready early. The girl says that it is and so I send my dad to pick it up. I wait patiently for him to get home with it and when he gets home I run over excitedly to see the sugar skull. Instead of a round cake with a sugar skull I see a small blue log cake with the words "Happy Birthday Lauren".

As it turns out Lauren is not my name. So I say, "What is that?" and he replies "Your cake."

I remember the old saying my mom always told me "Don't send a man to do a woman's job" and I return to Dairy Queen with Lauren's cake in my hands. When I approach the counter I say "I sent my dad to get my cake and you gave him the wrong one". They proceed to tell me that since he paid for it and left the store that this cake is now ours and they can't take it back due to helth issues. Ok I get it. They also tell me that since I ordered a custom cake and filled out the form for it I entered into a contract and I am still obligated to buy the right cake.

After a heated debate on who's wrong in this situation and after the manager comes out she tells me that I still have to keep both cakes but she will give me 50% of mine.

So I pay the 50% and before I leave I say "I feel sorry for Lauren. What is she going to do? You sold her cake." So I return home and both cakes are now in the freezer. And that concludes the story of the two birthday cakes.

Sorry Lauren, who ever you are. I stole your cake and I'm going to eat it too.

Happy Birthday!

I understand where they are coming from by saying it is health and safety issues. If I found out a cake of mine had left the store I'd be a little dubious.

However, you got two cakes! One with 50% off so enjoy it! Next time do the job yourself or tell your dad to look at it before he leaves the store :p

P.S. I'm sure they'll make Lauren another, it's more money in their pocket isn't it ;)

Yeah I am never going to send someone else to get a cake again! I understood what they were saying about it being a health issue but I feel like while my dad shouldn't have left with it they should have checked the slips before handing off the cake. They acted like they did nothing wrong when really they gave out the wrong cake and now Lauren (if she's going to pick up today) is going to be cakeless.

On the plus side I did the math and I only ended up putting out an extra 7$ for a whole other cake. We are going to have a ton of leftovers! Free cake for everyone! hahaha

don't worry for lauren. I worked at DQ as their cake maker for a year and they are simple to make so I'm sure they made one right away.
it was their fault for giving your dad the wrong cake. they should have given you the one you ordered for free.
