Tutorial crap..
I tried to post a how to with just a link to my blog (has the full how to on there) and I was told I couldn't do that.
But yet..I saw a how to on here the other day where it was literally on how to take a picture. 3 steps...said something like hold camera, focus camera, and take picture.
I mean, really??
I worked hard on that tutorial on my blog, I really just didn't want to rewrite and repost everything...
Just wanted to vent about it..
I get how time-consuming it can be to post the same tutorial to two or more different places because I also keep a blog where I put my tutorials and sometimes I only post on my blog.-- BUT honestly, on CO+K- if someone just linked their blog in a tutorial, I'd be put off and not bother.
I ended up doing something else...similar but just not on the how to posts.
I guess it just depends on how much you want to learn the project.
Don't get me wrong, I got totally ticked off when Craftster removed one of my posts because I linked my blog on it. So I get where the frustration comes in.
Aww, that's too bad
I really don't mind linking to a blog for a tutorial, I don't see any harm in that.
And I know what you mean about projects that are just so easy that they shouldn't require a how-to.. I saw one a while back that shows you how to fold a peice of paper in half twice..like, come on.. really!?!? LOL
Some people are weird. I don't know how to knit, but when I look at knitting tutorials and they are all on one step it drives my OCD up the wall.
I don't mind if there is a link... but that's weird that they are taken off sometimes.
I've had the same thing. With one of my how-tos I rewrote it only to find it hadn't saved and I had to do it all again.
I don't get how you can post a creation with a link to someone else's tute but not your own.
Hey Kira, sorry to hear you're upset with us but let me explain why we do this. First of all, you set this as a how-to, so members would expect to see the instructions when they click on your project. We can't guarantee that you will have this tutorial on your blog forever, so we don't want to have a site full of links that don't work anymore. We really don't want CO+K to become a tutorial listing site and allowing you to add a How-To that is just a link elsewhere, will encourage others to do the same, just to get promotion for their site. If you do add a How-To, you get to have a link telling people to check out your site anyway.
When you add the full how-to, it makes projects easier to search for our members and when you add the You Will Need it means that members can find projects using specific materials and tools. We're going to be doing lots with these features in the near future.
I know it's frustrating having to repost a tutorial you have somewhere else. We use to have an importer for this but it just took too much human effort that it wasn't sustainable. We are hoping to come up with a better and cleverer importer in the future for this.
In the meantime, if you add your project to CO+K, we have an embedder that you can use to put the project on your blog. We're also going to be working on a system that generates HTML so you can post the full project on your blogs and elsewhere.
Hope that helps,
Crafterella
Crafterella makes a good point! I would be put off by a site full of links that don't work.
Kira, I checked out the tut on your blog and it's awesome! Good job!
Thanks Kiddo!
I wasn't irrate . Just confused..
But now reading what crafterella wrote it does make a lot more sense. Just b/c I plan on having my blog there forever..doesn't mean everyone else will.
I just have so many sites I like to post things on...so just doing a link is easier for me. I'll figure out a way to work around it all or just suck it up and post it more than once.
STILL can't post anything. I don't have it labeled as a how to anymore? Am I missing something here or does my whole page have a glitch?
