At first when I read the link I was just like "A 9 year old was pregnant?!?! Oh my god!", but then when I read the article and found out she was pregnant because she was raped I felt sorry for her.
I think the church is being far too harsh to excommunicate all the people involved, because she might not have survived the pregnancy and in my opinion she's far too young to be a mother so abortion was the best thing to do.

yeah, i was pissed. My mind was like :What? so if you rape you're daughter it's fine, but having an abortion when you're nine (cause im seriously, how is she going to be a mother at nine? even the doctors said it could be hazardous to her health) is the ultimate sin??? and is not her life just as innocent life? what if she died? Hmmm? Would it be fine that? Or is she no longer innocent cause of what her stepfather did? Is she at fault for that? oh, i was so angry when i read that at work.

uuuuuuuurgh!!! oh they make me so fucking angry! If they allowed contraception they wouldn't have to ban abortion, preventing an unwanted baby is better then it being created in the first place. It breaks my heart, espeically in like Africa were theres a lot of Catholics and a lot of AIDS but the pope told them not to use condoms! That poor girl.

I knew a girl who got raped when she was 12 or 13. She got pregnant. Had the baby because she wanted to. Got kicked out of school for it. Then the baby was born with down syndrome and later died at like 6 months. it was soo sad.

that is sad. Very sad. In my school this very popular girl got pegger, and when her baby was born they announced it on the speaker, while three other girls at the school were also preggers and had childern the week before. Their babies were not announced, and they were chastised for being preggers.

So I was like, why is it like that. Why be harsh to some and kind to others

I think its horribly sad. I've been lucky, because I'm an intelligent girl, I understood sex and the std's and everything by the time I was six. I could decode my parents not-so-sly innuendos, so when people DON'T know about different things with sex... Its just so confusing because I haven't lived it.

Its incredibly sad, because I know that boy wants to be a good father, but I know it won't happen. Its not mature enough. He can't comprehend the position he is in, and he has put his family in. And I'm just basing this speculation on his father's description of him as a "normal 13 year old boy".

I have an EXTREMELY ADVANCED 13 year old cousin who is not NEARLY mature enough.

I'm 18, and I believe I could be a good mother [but... I've raised a child when my aunt ran off, so I've got MILD experience], but I know that I'm STILL BARELY mature enough.

I think the youngest ever recorded case of a girl becoming a mother was when she was 7 or something, and the photo of her was quite horrible because her stomach was nearly half the size of her! This was in the 1930's or something though, and I think she was from some remote tribe so having an abortion wasn't really an option. I think she might've got raped too... I can't remember, I'll go and look it up.

I think that people who say "There's no excuse for abortion ever; you get pregnant and you deal with it" are a bit stupid because say the mother was in danger if she continued with the pregnancy, she could die and then the baby would die too. So it's giving up two lives when you're trying to save the life of a person who hasn't even been born yet and isn't even capable of thoughts and feelings.

I doubt a 9 year old would even realise what an abortion was, the choice wasn't hers to get pregnant and it wasn't hers to get an abortion really. I don't think these people will change.

The case of the 9 year old rape victim is so heartbreaking. I can't understand why these people think that their loving god would want this poor innocent girl to suffer and possibly die because of something a perverse man - her own father! - did to her. She is simply too young emotionally and physically to even begin to handle any of it, and should be given an abortion so she can MAYBE begin to live a normal life again.

I agree with what all of you said concerning the 9 year old, so I only have this to ask,...WHAT IN HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?

Some people are just wrong in the head. This isn't really connected to the topic of children having babies, but my mum works as a support worker for people with learning difficulties and mild disabilities who live in their own houses but still need support. Anyway, another support worker who she didn't really like got caught stealing money from one of the people she was meant to be supporting! How wrong is that?! Stealing from vulnerable adults, it makes me sick. And when this woman's CRB check (Criminal Records Bureau, its a check everyone has to have done when they start working for a new employer so that the employer can be sure the potential employee hasn't been up to anything illegal) came back after like 6 months (6 months in which she'd been working to support these adults), they found out she'd been convicted of shoplifting and grievous bodily harm! And yet she had been working with vulnerable people. F*cking disgusting, people who think they can get away with all of that stuff make me so mad.
