Banned Games

There's a certain line that they shouldn't cross, the example KK gave...for example...I don't agree with war games, I mean stuff like GTA ok because it's not as realistic as wars, there's something about war games I really don't like it seems to trivialise what people have gone through. There was a game set in a church in manchester as well or something and I'm not religious and don't always care for the opinions of religious people but there's something about it being set in a church I don't like. Although plenty of films include war, violence, rape, whores etc etc. Age restrictions do fuck all. Gang culture has been around way before video games too.

I was in GAME the other day, and I seen a kid of around 8 or 9 walking around with Hitman (18 rating) clutched in his hands... I used to work in there, and I was going to go over to him and tell him that there is no way on earth he would be allowed out of the store with that, even if his parents tried to buy it for him, but I figured I wouldn't save them the embarrassment. However, it's another classic example of missing the obvious - a game called HITMAN. What do you think it involves, exactly?

The Resident Evil 5 thing is rediculous - I've been a fan of the series since it came out in 1996 (it was rated 15, I was 12, but my parents played through it with me, and I was smart enough to tell the difference between shooting zombies in game and shooting old ladies in the street) and not once has anyone ever said a word about shooting American or indeed Hispanic zombies, but shooting black people = outrage. Stupidity seems in limitless supplies these days...

I would like to make a Public Service Announcement for parents with children who play video games but who are not aware of the rating system. It would be a spoof on the Smokey The Bear campaign, and would go something like "Only you can prevent sociopaths" Happy What do you think? Would it fly?

I agree that its parental responsibility to ensure your child is only exposed to things that you are comfertable with.

Censorship is not the answer, the answer is better parenting.

I think you guys should watch a twilight episode called the Obsolete man. Its half and half about obsololecity and censorship. Happy I love it.

There's a game called Little Big Planet, I think, by Sony and they have delayed the release date because one of the songs in it has two lines from the Koran in it. So they think it will offend Muslims, yet the artist who wrote the song is a Muslim himself, so it's out of respect of his beliefs, I don't know how that would offend a Muslim, whoever decided to delay the release date is paranoid or stupidly politically correct.

This story explains why they are delaying the game. http://www.news.com.au/technology/story/0,25642,24525028-5014239,00.html

It's mostly because of the actual lines themselves I think, the game is for kids, so they seem a bit harsh to me!
"Every soul shall have the taste of death"

But really, who listens to the songs in games? I understand that they are a little harsh, but If I'm like.. batteling some monster or something, and I'm like AHH, NO, RUN JUMP, SHOOT THE GUN, NO, AIM BETTER RUN RUN RUN DUCK TUMBLE AHHHH!!! I'm not going to really be listening to the songs.

I mean... I understand just for the paranoid people out there... but.. c'mon.

Kids say worse stuff than that.

the song is in the same language of the Koran though, I think! So only Muslim children would understand it or those who spoke the same language. And actually Dis I got into Rage Against the Machine because of Tony Hawk's Skate Boarding!

Well the people who complained were muslim, they were testing the game and said that they don't put the words from the Koran to music as it's blasphemous as it's the word of god. The guy who wrote the song is muslim also from Mali in Western Africa, he says it is normal for people there to put the words to music. So what can they do?

Personally I don't care, I'm not religious and I don't see what harm singing a song can do? but sony is a big company and will bow to the pressure for money.
