Extreme Couponing/ TLC
This show takes Sunday evening couponing to awhole new level! Ladies and men were walking out of the supermarkets with over hundreds of dollars of items for less than $50! I'm so gonna start using more coupons and do a little challange for myself to only spend $50 next time I go shopping with coupons! oh-yeah, ring in the saving baby!
however, most couponers seem to spend a work day's worth of effort on gathering coupons and buy in extreme bulk. not for the average shopper, for sure!
They spend 40 or more hours a week obsessing over coupons that are for pre-packaged foods packed with fats and preservatives. 93 bags of croutons? 1300 rolls of toilet paper? A closet full of 2L bottles of pop? 54 bottles of laundry detergent? 100+ bottles of ketchup and mustard? $1200 worth of crap for 9 cents. My fiance and I hardly spend $30 a week in groceries because we shop responsibly.
So who really needs that much?!? Most of the people on the show don't even donate their extra food to those who need it... But then again, if I needed to go to a food bank, I wouldn't want to have to eat croutons and mustard just because it was on sale for some jack*ss.
I can understand clipping coupons for foods you're actually going to eat and not throw in a closet or under a bed, but having your home filled with stuff that's going to expire before you can use it all is just wrong... that's essentially hoarding but with horrible food instead of garbage and broken junk. That show is just awful... It makes sense to use coupons to try to save $30 or so on a $150 weekly trip for a family of 4, but not to save $1800 on food that could feed most of a starving country for a day but just stays in some hoarder's house instead.
I love this show, its like you have to watch like you just can not turn the channel, but what I dont understand is why buy so much. Lik why would that one lady need like 75 bottles of mustard.
I feel like if they bought less they would save even more money...
Idk just doesnt make sense to by so much... lol I
All in all, I still love the show and yes, i know it is a bit much to buy more than you need in perishable goods. I would only buy canned goods because they last for years, and meat that can be frozen for at least a year. Household items and personal care products I don't mind stocking up on either. An besides it's not for everyone and it is ture that some of the stuff they buy don't make sense. All that mustard, come on I too think that is crazy!
Oh,the croutons I would have bought! I love croutons, they are like chips to me! They go good with everything you can cook!
Like everything in life there will be people who just take it to the extreme and others who know how to use it to better their lives. I'm just one of those people who just want to bettter my life, by saving as much as I can where ever I can. Since I will have alot of student loans to pay off in the future, extra money helps from even couponing!
A guy tonight had 1000 tubes of toothpaste and i was like "how could you use that many before they expire?"... and then he mentioned his goal to spend under $50 for his family's stuff and 1000 care packages for the military. ok, i guess it makes sense then lol.
