Question for all the peoples with tattoos and piercings and colored hair!

My visible tattoo is on my wrist. My new job has no problem with it being on show ( and one manager has them up his arms on show too). I work in a bingo hall. The last job i got (but couldn't keep) was in a phone shop. They never mentioned the tattoo as i had bright purple hair. They hired me but told me i couldn't have purple hair to work there.

My sister's a hairdresser and she used to have her hair every colour under the sun and has a few visible tattoos which her boss didnt mind.

I work with kids too at an after school program. whenever i dye my hair a crazy color they say, "why did you paint your hair?!?!" Its pretty cute Happy

I have 3 tattoos. One above my left ankle, and one on each of my shoulder blades. I purposely put them there so I can cover them up. But now I work from home as a graphic artist & massage therapist, many people don't really notice my ankle one. I did at one point had to cover it up w/ band-aids or make-up when I worked a corporate job. It all depends on where you work and their policies.

I do promotional work for friends. I hand out fliers in the roads for them. Loads of people take fliers from me because I stand out because of my pink hair.

I also work for a music shop now. They don't mind my hair at all.

I work at a pottery place. We're all super artsy and laid back there. Honestly the customers don't care what you look like as long as you know what your talking about and can help them with their pieces and the kids that come in are fascinated by my hair color, ha ha.
At the whole foods in my area every person who works there has more than two piercings, stretched ears, tattoos, or dyed hair, or a combination. I live in a really liberal area in California though, so it's not really a problem. It's the sort of place where people stop you on the street to compliment your tattoos and hair color, ha ha. X3

I wish I could live in a place like that! My town is filled with a bunch of crotchety old farts, so they don't like anything weird. I think the only place that I have seen that allows that stuff is Gamestop.

hmmm. i live in rural canada. i worked with a girl who had facial peircings and no one said anything to her. tattoos seemed fine as well. i used to be a teacher and worked at the department of education as well. i have a tattoo on my foot and kept it covered up. teaching is a relatively conservative profession. i didn't even attempt to show it off.

I work at a kindergarten ( cleaning, serving food, assisting in a child-group..), and I have two somewhat large tattoos on my calves and two lip piercings. That hasn't been a problem. Children can be curious at first, but when they ask about my piercings I just tell them that some people have holes in their ears and wear earrings, and my piercings are the same thing, just in a different place Happy They also love my new My Little Pony -tattoo! Tattoos show only during summer, when I wear a skirt.. The parents seem to be alright with my appearance also, in the end it's all about they way you act, not the way you look.. Happy

I live in Finland, if that's relevant.

LMAO @ crotchety old farts! This year I worked as a crossing guard in my town and I have plans to student teach in September. I have two tattoos; a purple bat on my back and a trail of blue stars on my left leg. In the elementary school I did pre-student teaching observations at (part of the requirement for pre-practicum--this is in the US, by the way), nobody had an issue with my tattoos, and even some of the kids commented on my stars. The bat, of course, was covered up.

Edited to add that I have a veterinarian friend and a heavily tattooed police officer friend who is also on the bomb squad. The vet has a few tats that are covered up by work clothes, and the cop/bomb squad guy also has multiple body piercings except for his face. Everything is covered up by his uniform. But when they're off duty, both of them are free to show them off Happy

I worked at Gamestation in UK (left to do uni) they didn't care what i looked like tbh, although their policy is relaxed and casual, you could wear jeans and trainers, hair down, bracelets, necklaces. I dyed my hair purple then red then blue and got a tattoo on my forearm when I was there and they didn't mind.
I have some tattoos that can be covered up with normal clothes, others will only be hidden in winter.

I've worked in a bunch of different type jobs. through out the years i've had pink, purple, blue hair and my nose pirced. I also have a tat on my ankle but this is what ive noticed about being yourself and work.
1. it really depends on your employer. If you have a franchise that you work for many times all you have to do is ask your boss. I had pink and purple hair for years working at mcdonalds , but when they sold the store the new boss had me dye it brown. as for piercings all food places require it to be covered at least, however it seems even places like walmart dislike face pircings so again , ask your employer.
2. many places are VERY acepting to tattoos now days, as long as they don't harm or offend anyone. Walmart loves tattoos
3. the most accepting boss will always be yourself.

sorry about the numbers, im on a list kick today!!!

really though i've had a ton of different jobs and you'd be surprised who is and isn't ok with what you look like.

but to answer your question

most fast foods are ok with all but it depends on what you do there and the boss.
Walmart and Kmart is okay with tattoos and some pircings but not colored hair (unless you have a very nice boss which i didnt)
hotel jobs and maids don't usally care as long as you appear modest and friendly
but the best ive found is freelance. since you are your own boss Tongue

I know that Hobby Lobby, as conservative as the company is, will allow you some visible tattoos. Not sure about hair color though. I don't work there but I have a habit of striking up conversation with the cashiers, lol.

Also, the Walmarts in my part of the Midwest allow for pretty much everything--tattoos, piercings, anything and everything right down to bright blue and red hair. Maybe it's because one's in a college town and the other's in a town full of young people and democrats, haha.

Its allllll about mastering the art of disguise =P I have 11 piercings, 2 tattoos with blue, green and purple hair and I work at a company that manufactures and sells temperature monitoring systems for medical refrigerators and freezers. It's an office job so I have to look professional and "normal." To do that I invested in a very nice long brown wig with bangs (which covers up my hair, one of my tattoos and all my ear piercings), I take out my lip ring because it’s the only "visible" piercing I have and then wear nice clothing. It's pretty simple really, just try to consider choosing a spot for your piercings and tattoos that can easily be covered every day. Hope that helps ^_^

I know that Hot Topic and Fishbone let workers have tattoos. The Joanne Fabrics near my house also had a cashier with dark purple hair. You should look around, especially in malls and opther places young people frequent. But you should never risk not having money when you're on your own so you can have cool hair and skin Tongue
