Highlights

Trying to decide whether to get highlights, my hairs already dyed dark brown/black and I'm thinking of getting a few highlights, not sure whether I should get blonde ones or maybe go for auburn reddish ones...
Also as my hair is already dyed would it make it really complicated when I want to dye it again and will it dry my hair out too much?

Been contemplating this for a few weeks and wondering whether to do it or not, getting a bit bored with my current colour :S

Well Im a hairdresser! So you have blackish/brown on your hair now thats a dye? right? If so depending on when you last put it on and weather it was box color or salon color will tell you how fast your hair will turn if you chose to go blond. No matter what they will have to bleach your hair and if it doesnt come out the right color they can always tone it and make it blonde and take the orange or red out. But you probablly wouldnt turn out platinum.

If you wanna go for the red ones, they might sill have to bleach your hair to lighten it to get the red on but they will not have to lighten so much with means for you less damage to your hair.

If I know when you last colored your hair and what type of color you used I can let you know which will be less damaging Happy

Oooh yey! The dye I am using is this one: http://www.superdrug.com/Perfect-10-from-Clairol/PERFECT-10-DARK-BROWN-4/invt/535125 I last coloured it beggining of March but I probably wont get round to doing the highlights until end of May as I dont really want to put more hair dye in until I have regrowth.

I dont really want to go very blonde either, I'm thinking something like this: http://www.my-hair-style.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/girlemo.jpg

I would probably also want to keep the highlights away from my face like this: http://0.tqn.com/d/beauty/1/5/3/0/1/katherine_10.jpg as I've been told the dark brown is a nice contrast against my blue eyesHappy

I'm just getting a bit bored of the block colour and the sun is now out in the UK so I would like something a bit more summery,

As I said my main worry is it damaging my hair, from experience darker dyes have not destoyed my hair as much as lightening ones and now i have hair to half way down my back and dont want to ruin it.

I really like them both and they are a darker type of blonde so they wont have to leave the bleach on that long and it shouldnt damage you hair much at all! I think they are both really pretty and a great idea!

Leaving the color off and waiting on the highlights is a good step in not damaging you hair its easier that way for the color to lift!
