Need large amounts of fake fur, and CHEAP.

I've had a lot of luck so far with finding most of my supplies through donations in exchange for shop discounts or just sale shopping and hardcore couponing, but this is the one item I cannot seem to find at reasonable prices anywhere.

The least I've seen any go for was the really icky looking stuff they sell at JoAnn Fabics for $15/yd. Even if I could afford it, it only comes in black, white, and brown and all of it looks very cheap. That's okay to use as hair for my Blockhead plush dolls (they're mostly zombies, so it's okay if their hair's a little matted or patchy), but it's not really acceptable quality for costumes or anything else.

I had a really fun idea to make a Krampus costume for next year since a lot of my friends have kids now and want to introduce Krampus along with Santa at Christmastime, but I'd have to find a much better deal than $15 or $20/yd if I'm going to complete this.

I'd also like to be able to have more color options for my Blockheads' hair. I have a friend who's been waiting on a Chucky doll version for ages now, but i can't finish it until I find orange fur at a price I can afford (closer to $5/yd than $20).

If anyone has any ideas that could help me out, I'd really appreciate it.

I've looked around for the same sort of thing in the past. Sadly, the only affordable faux fur sort of thing is velboa... and if you're anything like me, those waves in the fabric are hideous and undesirable.

For hair for plushies you might want to look into "fun fur" yarn and knit or crochet sections the sizes you need them. Some websites like fabric.com have fun fur yarn in a lot of colors for pretty cheap.

For small sections of fur, maybe look at stuffed animals in thrift stores. They can always be carefully washed so you can salvage the fur from them for smaller projects.

Yeah, unfortunately I'm not a fan of velboa either. :/ I might try the fun fur yarns though. I only know how to knit in straight lines so far, but my plushies all have square heads so that shouldn't be a problem. I may just have to shelve the Krampus idea for a while and keep an eye out for a great deal.

Yeah. I really wish faux fur would come down in price. Even the cheapest stuff on fabric.com is $20 a yard, and their prices are usually the lowest online. I have found some shorter faux furs at Walmart for about $5 a yard, but that's about it and they're hard to come by there.

well your best option so far might be fabric. com indeed, because I've found some other shops even in etsy but the shipping is ridiculous...

Thanks ladies. I just signed up for their emails, so maybe I'll get lucky and they'll have it on sale soon.

what are you planning on using it for??

I wanted to make a Krampus costume, but I also use smaller amounts for hair for my Blockhead plush characters. I found a seller on etsy whose prices aren't terribly high and who has a really great selection, so for the smaller projects I think I'm set. (She charges $7 for 1/3 yard and $11 for 1/2 yard solid colors, and only slightly more for the fancier styles with colored "spikes" and bubbles and patterns.) It's still more than I can afford for a full-body costume like Krampus, but it looks like that's about as good as it gets.
