By Hand. Biggest Project Ever. o_o
So, I am still horribly new to this community and this is my attempt to drum up some interest - bare with me. ~chuckle~ Well, more like support. I am about to take on a HUGE project.
What this project entails is making a plush dolls and TONS of accessories for it all by hand as well as making a carrying bag that can roll out into a play mat with pop-up hallowed out obstacles. If anyone has played the Japanese video game 'We <3 Katamari', the plush is based off of that. It is essentially the Prince character and then a ball that can pick up via velcro various small objects and stick to the ball as well as one another. I intend for the obstacles to be made out of felt and just be simple hallow structures sewn to the mat that can be rolled up and shut with velcro to be the carrying bag. As an added bonus, I am making one of the cousins and an additional katamari ball so my son can get some 2 player action with his little cousin when they have play dates.
Cool idea? I wonder if it has been done before or if anyone has any advice?
But what I am realy interested in and to kind of help pump me up for taking on this project... what I really would like to hear is what where YOUR biggest projects?
What took anyone here just forever to do? What kind of work was it and what made it so painstaking? Please share your story with me, I think I'll feel less intimidated by my project if I hear some of yours.
I always bite off more than I can chew when it comes to embroidery. My two biggest projects are:
http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/boy-meets-girl-embroidery
http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/embroidered-necklace
They may not be particularly large but they are detailed. The owl picture took over a year of on and off work and the necklace around 4 months.
I sometimes find the conception and design stages can take quite a long time. I spent a day alone designing the necklace, picking the colours and transfering the image to the felt.
Your project sounds amazing btw. And a really good idea.
My advice would be to write down or sketch out a plan, like what to make first, second, and so on. Starting a big project requires organization and going at a steady pace. Give yourself a reasonable deadline to set your pace and plan for a few mistakes made in a fit of haste.
Also, have everything where and when you need it so you don't run around like a crazy person. Staying organized will help a ton.
Thanks for your replies!
OMG Libby! Those are amazing and very beautiful! I am struggling to learn how to properly embroider. I can kind of do it but I am nowhere near your level. I'll have to check out more of your work because you've just become the person I want to embroider like, lol.
I feel more confident now. ^_^
I'm glad that helped! I wasn't showing off I promise! There are loads of beautiful embroideries that i've come across on this site like hidden gems. I'm a copier. I use motifs or other peoples designs. I really admire people that design their own embroidery projects.
